Nick's "Storymatic" Story

It started off like a normal day. Same routine, until I was walking home from school. I was thinking of what I want to do with my life and what I want to be because I only have one more year before I graduate from high school and go to college.
I was about halfway to my house when something caught the bottom of my eye. I saw that someone had drawn some words out of chalk on the sidewalk. I backed up and read them.

Dear Connor,
We need you for something that could save the world. If you follow the clues I leave you, you will figure out your mission. I can’t let you see my true identity because of reasons you don’t need to know. You will have to keep some secrets if you follow along. Keep a look out for messages that I will be leaving and if you don’t, there will be consequences that everyone will have to suffer.
Good Luck! Sincerely, MS.

Wow. What the heck just happened?I felt like someone was watching me. I was scared and could feel coldness crawling up my body like I had just jumped in a frozen lake. I had so many questions to ask like how did they know my name? Who was this person? I continued walking home.
I could finally see my house when I noticed something. My neighbors were all staring at me through the window. They all looked weird too, like they were possessed. Their eyes were wide open looking at me, they were still like they were frozen and all stood up straight with no bend in their back. Their eyes were the weirdest though, they were all white and some were all black. I stopped in my tracks, I started to shake, I shook so much that my heart started to beat fast and loud like drums.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I ran to my house that was just down the street. When I got there I slammed the door shut so hard that I was surprised it didn’t fall off. My mom ran in from the kitchen,
“Is everything ok? Connor, are you all right? You look scared out of your mind,” she asked.
“No it’s ok,” I answered. I wanted to tell her about the message but I remembered what the message said. “Don’t tell anyone.”
“All right. If you need anything you can ask me,” my mom said.
“Yeah, yeah I know.”
I walked up to my room and threw myself onto the bed. I was freaked out and had A LOT of questions. How did they know my name and why me? Out of all the people in the world, me? And what did they mean when they said "everyone will have to suffer the consequences”?
“Dinner time Conner,” my mom yelled. I walked downstairs and saw that my dad was already eating.
“How was your day Connor?” he asked.
“Ok. Why?” I answered. My heart started pounding like elephants stomping because I thought he might know something.
“Just wanted to know. Everything ok?” my dad answered.
“Yeah, why is everyone asking me this?” I said.
“We just wanted to know. Your mother said you didn’t look ok when you walked in the door.”
“I’m fine, can you guys stop asking me questions please,” I snapped.
“Sorry we just want to make sure you are ok,” my mother answered.
“I know,” I said. I started to feel bad because I was kind of being rude.
After dinner was over I went back to my bedroom and noticed that the door was open. I was pretty sure I shut it like I always do when I go to dinner. I walked in and saw that my window was open. I never open my window, especially in the fall because it gets too cold in my room. I shut my window and noticed that there was an envelope on my bed.
I picked it up and looked out my window. I didn’t see anything but when I looked down at the window on the house next to mine, my neighbors were still standing there looking up at me. One looked like he had a knife. I freaked out, ran down the stairs, and jumped on my couch. My dad was sitting in his recliner chair.
“ What’s that? A letter from your girlfriend. Ooohhhh,” my dad teased.
“Shut up,” I said with a smirk.
“Hey Hun, Conner’s got a girlfriend and she sent him a gushy love letter,” my dad said.
“Who is it?” my mom asked.
“Probably that blonde girl that Conner always blushes at when she’s around him,” my dad said.
“It’s nobody, ok? It’s no one,” I said.
“Sure. You just don’t want to get embarrassed do you?” my dad said.
“Whatever,” I said. I had the urge to tell them but the letter firmly said not to.
I walked upstairs and lay down on my bed. I opened the letter , pulled out the note and on the cover there was a symbol that said “MS”. The same initials that were signed at the end of the chalk note on the sidewalk earlier that day. I started to read the note.

Dear Connor,
This is now the second note I have sent you. I didn’t want to tell you all the secrets I have to share with you because your parents could get hold of this note. The code will tell you the next location. I have drawn a clue to solving the secret message at the bottom of the page.
NI STNERAP RAC, REDNU SREGNESSAP TAES.
Clue to finding next message: Unscramble the _ e _ _ e _ _.
GOOD LUCK!
Sincerely, MS

??????? That’s what I was thinking. I thought someone was faking this and that it would only happen once. I guess I was wrong. Unscramble the what? I tried to think this out, Unscramble the…………..letter! I quickly got to work unscrambling the secret message.

IN PARENT’S CAR, UNDER PASSENGER’S SEAT.

I quickly ran down stairs and darted out the door, and into the garage. I opened the passenger’s door to my parent’s car and searched under the seat. I found a piece of paper that was taped tightly to the bottom of the seat. I opened it and started to read.

      Dear Connor,
I’m sure you have noticed your neighbors and how they have been acting weird. They have been hypnotized but only certain people can see it. Don’t worry; you don’t have any disease of any type. I’m not allowed to tell you what people like you are called but I can tell you that there are not many people like you. You will have to learn the proper word that describes you by yourself. Hopefully this will have helped a little bit with your journey.
                                         Sincerely, MS

I didn’t even think about anything right then. I walked inside my house and looked for my mom and told her I was sick because I needed to be alone to figure this out.
“Mom, Where are you?” I asked.
No one answered so I yelled again.
“Mom, where are you?”
No one answered again. I immediately ran upstairs where I saw one of my next-door neighbors holding a knife and staring at me. I ran back down my stairs where another one had just shut my front door. I ran into the living room where two more of my neighbors were. I was scared out of my mind. My instincts kicked in and I ran down the basement stairs.
When I got down there it was dark. but at one corner of the room there was what looked like a blinker. As I got closer the dot started to change position and go up. It started to get brighter and I started to get closer until I touched the dot. It felt like plasticy/metal. I put pressure on it and I heard a click. Before I knew it the lights were on. I looked around and saw notes. I never have actually been down here before. My parents have never let me. I started reading the notes. They all sounded the same as the notes I had been getting. I looked around. Everything was so neat. There were dates, letters and pictures of places around town.
Just then I heard a noise getting louder and louder, like it was getting close. Then in the corner of the room across from me the floor opened up and I saw what looked like an elevator door. The door started to open slowly. My parents walked out.
“It’s time to tell you the truth,” my mom said.
“Have you been leaving me these notes?”
“Yes and we are sorry we didn’t confront you and instead acted sly,” my dad answered.
“Come walk with us,” my mom said.
“Fine as long as you explain everything.”
“We can see them too, you know. Everyone with our blood can see them. It hasn’t always been easy to fit in. The only way we fit in is because we haven't told anyone outside of the family,” my mom said.
          “So I can’t tell anyone,” I asked.
          “No,” my dad answered.
“But why didn’t you tell me? Why did you have to be sneaky about it and leave all of these notes?” I asked.
“We felt that we would overwhelm you if we just told you face to face. When your grandpa told me I freaked out and we didn’t want you to freak out like I did because it doesn’t feel good,” my dad answered.
“Ok, but what was my mission?” I asked.
“Part of your mission was to find out it was us leaving you those notes, but obviously you have already found that out,” my mom answered.
“I think we should just save the rest for tomorrow, you have a lot to take in," my dad said.

Seat belts

By Nicholas Campbell

A teenager has just gotten his car and decides to take his friend for a ride. When they get in the car the teenagers don’t wear their seat belts because they think they’re to cool. During the drive they see a car turn onto the other lane but the car starts to swerve into their lane. As they get closer the guy doesn’t get back into his lane and hits the teenagers straight on at 30 mph. The teenagers fly right through the windshield and onto the other car and die. If the teenagers had been wearing seat belts they would have been held back and would have been able to get out of the car with an injury or maybe even some bumps and bruises instead of dying.
I believe that people should wear seatbelts when riding in a car because if you don’t, it’s dangerous. If you get in an accident you could die or get seriously hurt. But, sadly, people still don’t wear seat belts because of some stupid reasons. I hope that by the end of this essay you will understand why it is so important to wear a seat belt in a car.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 5,500 lives could be saved each year by increasing the level of safety belt use in the United States to 90 percent. Yet, only 68 percent of Americans wear safety belts. Every hour someone dies in America simply because they didn't wear a safety belt. 63% of people killed in accidents are not wearing seat belts and 17,500 people die every year from not wearing a seat belt.
Some people might say they don’t need to wear seat belts because, “the chance that I’ll have an accident is so small”, “those things only happen to other people,” or "I’m a good driver, it won’t happen to me”. People also say that drivers in air bag equipped vehicles don’t need to wear seat belts. And some people just think they’re too cool to wear a seat belt.
I hope you will learn that you should wear seat belts even if you don’t want to because they can save lives and you probably don’t want to end up like the teenagers did or you will be taking an early dirt nap for eternity.

The Past Comes To Haunt You
By Nick Campbell
Grade 5
Jason Gronkowski had just gotten home from work and was puzzled to see his bedroom light on even though he was pretty sure he shut that light off. He opened the door and went up stairs to turn the light off. When he got up stairs he opened his bedroom door and saw the picture of him and his wife smashed into little glass pieces.
Jason and his wife had just gotten the picture a day ago and he was a little scared because he thought that someone else might be in his house with him, but Jason’s wife was on a business trip until 10 the next day. Just then heard a loud noise down stairs. The noise sounded like something made out of glass. He grabbed the phone in his room and hid under his bed, then he called the cops.
“ Hello 911 what is your emergency?” the machine said.
“ There is a burglar in my house!”
“ We will be right there.”
After a couple of minutes Jason thought he heard a car pull into his driveway. He thought it was the cops so he tiptoed down the stairs trying to not attract any unwanted attention. Once he got to the front door he looked out the window and saw that the only car in his driveway was his own. He opened the door to walk outside but before he did he grabbed his car keys so that if anything happened while he was outside he could unlock his car quickly and hide in it.
He walked to the end of his driveway and looked down both sides of the street but there was no police car in sight. He turned around and headed back to the front door. Then he heard a loud noise that sounded like there was a person next to him screaming in his ear. He quickly ran to his car and while he was running he unlocked the car with the remote key. When he reached the car he jumped in so wicked fast that he dropped his keys outside. They landed on the lock button and the locks clicked shut. Now he was locked inside. The only way to unlock the car was to press unlock on the car keys because the locks inside were broken. He had been meaning to get them fixed.
He looked back outside to see who or what was making that loud weird sound but he saw nothing. Then, he heard the front door to his house shut loudly.
30 minutes later the cops finally showed up in two cars. Jason tried to open the car door but it still wouldn’t budge. He tried again but it wouldn't open. He tried to get out of the car over and over but the door was stuck. It was so solid that it felt like there was concrete holding it.
Two cops got out of their cars, one had black hair and the other had blond hair. They headed to the front steps. They passed Jason, clearly not seeing him because the windows on his car were tinted. The cops walked up the steps, and the cop with the black hair knocked on the door.
It's the police is everything okay in there?” The blonde police officer said.
Jason banged on the window as hard as he could and the cops still didn't notice him. Instead the cops thought the noise was coming from inside and they busted in. The door fell to the floor.
What are you doing!” Jason yelled.
The police looked in and it seemed like they saw nothing. They walked back down the steps but then they both paused for a second. They turned around slowly and walked up the steps, again, slowly pulling their guns out of their pockets. The blonde cop walked in and the black-haired one followed. Jason had enough so he honked the horn on his car.
Honk, Honk, Honk!”
The two cops came running out of Jason's house to his car. They walked around the car to secure, it and then they tried to look inside but they couldn't see anything because the windows were tinted. They looked in the back window because that wasn't tinted.
The cops headed back into Jason's house. He couldn't see them anymore. Jason was so mad that he punched the window. He punched it so hard that the window broke and glass was everywhere. Jason crawled out of the window and looked at his hand. .
“ OWWWWW!” He said.
The cop with black hair came outside and ran over to Jason.
Are you the one who called 911?” he asked, looking at Jason’s hand.
Call an ambulance,” he said to the cop with blonde hair.
Jason’s hand was covered with many tiny little cuts and all the cuts had blood gushing out of them. The blonde cop called the police station for an ambulance, then hung up the phone.
“ Bang!, Bang!, Bang!”
“ What the heck is going on!” Jason said.
He ran behind his car to hide. Looking back he saw the blonde cop lying on the ground dead, but couldn't see the other one. Jason started sweating so much that his shirt was soaked and he was shaking like crazy because he was scared so much.
“ Please no no no”
“ Bang, Bang ,Bang!”
Jason saw the other cop lying on the ground, not far away. He ran a couple houses down the street and into the woods next to a house. The shooter ran after Jason. He was wearing black clothes and a gray jacket.
Jason looked back and saw the shooter was about 10 feet away from him. There was a pond ahead and Jason jumped into it. The shooter stopped at the pond and looked to see if he could see Jason. But he couldn’t because the water in the pond was dirty and Jason was holding his breath watching the shooter but the shooter couldn’t see him.
Just then the ambulance pulled into Jason's driveway. The shooter turned around and Jason threw a rock at his head. Jason missed the shooter but the shooter made it look like Jason hit him so Jason would come out of hiding. Jason jumped out of the pond and ran toward the ambulance Right when Jason passed the shooter the shooter got up and chased after Jason.
Bang, Bang”
“ I'm coming to get you Jason” the shooter said.
Jason ran into his house instead of the ambulance because if he ran to the ambulance he was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to hide behind much cover, up the stairs and into his room shutting the door behind him. He got under his bed. He thought and thought to himself about how that guy knew his name and wondered who he was.
Slam!
“ Come out come out wherever you are. I'll find you Jason.”
Thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk. Jason started shaking like a Chihuahua. The shooter came up stairs after him and found the room that Jason was in.
Come on Jason, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,” the shooter said.
The shooter walked around Jason's bed and then stepped in front of Jason. Jason wondered if the shooter was going to look under his bed and find him and then shoot him or if he should grab the shooter's legs and make him shoot his own feet?
Jason didn't do anything close to what he was thinking about. Instead he rolled out from under the bed on other side where the shooter wasn't and snuck out the door, then ran down the stairs. As soon as the shooter heard him go down the stairs he called the cops and then
chased after Jason.
When Jason heard the cops pull into the driveway, and stop. Jason hesitated and stopped. Then the shooter came from behind him and jumped on Jason. Jason pushed the shooter off of him and then tried to run outside but the shooter quickly grabbed his leg and made Jason trip. Then the shooter went over and punched Jason in the face and Jason got knocked out.
Jason woke up to the sound of gunfire and the smell of smoke and the noisy sirens. He saw the shooter in front of him, then Jason looked out of the window and saw three cop cars. The shooter never took his eyes off the cops in the driveway. There were 6 cops and 2 cops were dragging one police officer behind a police car because he had been shot and was wounded. Now there were only 3 cops left
“ Bang, Bang”
Suddenly two more police officers were laying on the ground dead!
Jason noticed that the shooters leg was bleeding and that the blood was spreading to the floor. He sat up to punch the shooter, taking him by surprise. The shooter fell to the ground. Jason ran outside to the cops and took cover behind one of their cars. When he got behind the car the police officer [who was shot and wounded] was laying there but he was still alive just barely. Jason took the police officer’s gun and headed over to the shooter to finish this once and for all. He wanted to do it himself. But when he got over there the shooter was gone!
“ Bang, Bang ,Bang”
Jason turned around and saw the two police officers fall to the ground and then he saw the shooter limp out of the house and over to one of the police officers.
Jason ducked behind a rock so the shooter didn’t see him. He was so scared that his whole body was shaking. The shooter got in one of the cars and grabbed a megaphone.
“ I’m coming to get you Jason, wherever you are,” the shooter said.
Jason stuck his head up shaking even more now. He wondered if he was going to die or if he was ever going to escape? Jason darted around his house to his backyard. The shooter saw Jason ssssssand ran after him.
When Jason reached the backyard he hid behind his grill. The shooter stopped in the middle of Jason’s backyard. He walked to the other side of Jason’s house. Jason slowly followed. He saw the shooter about to go behind one of the cop cars and then Jason remembered the wounded police officer was there. Jason knew that he couldn’t let another person die so he followed the shooter he xyelled in a quivery voice,
“ Hey you.”
The shooter turned around.
“ Bang!”
Everything went silent for a second.
“ AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!” the shooter screamed as he felt the pain from the bullet.
Jason had shot the shooter in the leg. He walked over to the shooter and felt like shooting him again but half of his body didn’t. Just then Jason realized who the shooter was.
Before Jason started his new job as a mechanic he had been a gang member but he quit because he owed a guy some money. Jason didn’t think he was going to be able to pay back $50,000 in a week so he decided to become a mechanic and change his name from Moses to Jason. He wanted to change his name so other gang members wouldn’t be able to find him because he knew if he didn’t pay the money the boss would send someone to kill him.
Once Jason recognized the gang member he called the cops. He kept his eye on the shooter and asked him if the boss was mad. The shooter said yes.
“ The boss was going to give me $25,000 if I killed you and brought him your head,” the shooter said.
Jason watched as the police took the shooter to jail, relieved that all his pain was over. He was brought to the hospital to get his wounds dealt with.
Afterwards he went back home. and got into bed, and his wife came home. Jason told her all about it and who the shooter was but later when Jason’s wife was asleep, Jason wondered if he was still safe and if the gang boss was going to send more gang members.
Jason didn't want to take any risks, and told the police all that he knew about the gang and the gang boss, like where they were located and if he was armed with a lot of guns and other stuff. Luckily while Jason was a gang member he didn't really do anything too bad so he didn't have to go to jail. Instead he and his wife moved to a knew state. Jason got a new identity and a new job too.
A couple of weeks later Jason was reading the news and saw that the cops had arrested the gang boss and the gang members so Jason and his wife never had any more trouble with the gang boss ever again.
