Mrs. Horton

Have you ever wondered about your teachers? I know I have. Mrs. Horton is my school librarian. Mrs. Horton was born in New York City. Her favorite friend was Marsha. She was funny, kind and friendly. They liked to dance together, also bake, read, and make forts in the back yard of their apartment. Mrs. Horton was born in 1952, which is 62 years ago.
Mrs. Horton was lucky. She went to 8 different schools. She was lucky because she had so many friends and teachers. Her pre-school was Spyten Dyvel in New York. She was in a public school from k-5 grade, which was also in New York. Then she moved to Germany and went to Ratingen school for two years. She went to boarding school in England for one year. Then she moved back to America and went to Staples High School in Westport,       Connecticut from 9th-12th grade. For college she went to Marlboro College then she went to Boston University for her Masters in Education.
As an adult, the happiest thing that ever happened to her was when she had her daughter. Before she became a librarian she was a music teacher for 10 years. She wanted to become a librarian because she loves to teach also she loves to read.
She started to play the guitar in 1961. One hero in her life is Joni Mitchell who was a folk singer, and writes amazing songs. Another hero is E.B White who wrote Charlottes Web. One more hero was Eleanor Roosevelt because she was a very wise and compassionate person.
I have learned a lot about Mrs. Horton. It surprised me about how many schools she went to. It was so many. I think it must of been hard for her and I feel sad for Mrs. Horton, because she would not be able to see all of her friends. It would shape her to know a lot of people. She must have had a lot of teachers and that means she would know more people, as well as have a lot of friends, but she wouldn’t be able to see them. That’s sad. She had to write letters that took a week by air mail.
I wish I had such a cool child hood like Mrs. Horton. It sounds like a fun life. I wish I was her.
